Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 14, 2026
AskProf ("AskProf," "we," "us") is an educational AI assistant that helps students learn by answering questions and explaining concepts. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Who this applies to
AskProf is designed for use by students, including school age children, typically under the guidance of a professor or educational institution. If you are under the age required by your local law to consent to online services on your own, please have a parent, guardian, or teacher review this policy and help set up your account.
2. Information we collect
- Account information: your name and email address, collected when you sign up with email and password, or with Google or Microsoft sign in.
- Study profile (optional): grade level and subjects of interest, used only to tailor explanations to your level.
- Conversations: the questions you ask and the answers AskProf gives, saved to your account so you can revisit past chats.
- Feedback: thumbs up or down ratings you give on individual answers.
- Images (when enabled): photos you attach to a question, resized on your device before upload, used only to answer that question.
- Technical information: standard server logs, such as IP address and timestamps, generated automatically when you use the site and kept only as needed for security and reliability.
We do not knowingly collect more information than is needed to provide and improve AskProf.
3. How we use your information
- To create and manage your account.
- To generate answers to your questions using AI providers, described below.
- To personalize explanations based on your study profile, if you provide one.
- To keep your conversation history so you can continue where you left off.
- To enforce daily usage limits and prevent abuse.
- To review flagged conversations for safety, at the discretion of site administrators.
4. Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as needed to run AskProf.
- AI providers: your questions, and any attached image, are sent to Google Gemini, and, if enabled, OpenAI, to generate a response. These providers process the content of your messages but do not receive your name or email from us.
- Infrastructure providers: Supabase (database and authentication) and Vercel (hosting) store and process data on our behalf, under their own security and privacy commitments.
- Sign in providers: if you sign in with Google or Microsoft, that provider confirms your identity to us and shares your name and email, according to your own settings with them.
- Site administrators: administrators of your AskProf deployment, for example your professor, can view account details, usage statistics, and conversation content for support, moderation, and safety purposes.
5. Shared conversations
If you choose to share a conversation using AskProf's share link feature, anyone with that link can view that conversation without needing an account. You can turn sharing off at any time, which immediately disables the link.
6. Data retention and deletion
We keep your account and conversation history for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from your profile page. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, conversations, and messages. This cannot be undone.
7. Security
We use industry standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls that restrict each user to their own data, and administrator only access for moderation. No method of storing or transmitting data is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children's privacy
AskProf is built to be used by students of many ages, including children, typically through a school or a professor's account setup. We rely on schools, professors, and parents or guardians to obtain any consent required by law before a child uses AskProf, and to supervise use as appropriate. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information without appropriate consent, please contact us using the details below and we will address it promptly.
9. Your choices
You can review and update your name, email, and study profile at any time from your profile page. You can unshare or delete individual conversations, or delete your entire account.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "last updated" date above. Continued use of AskProf after changes means you accept the updated policy.

Questions about this policy or your data can be sent to support@askprof.com.
